Britney Spears: A Look Back At Her Singles ... So Far

With her new album due in March, we revisit some of the pop princess' many hits.

Now that Britney Spears has announced that she will be releasing a new album in March 2011, fans must be wondering what her latest musical endeavor will sound like. The as-yet-untitled effort is a follow-up to 2008's well-received Circus, which helped resurrect the singer's career after a dark time in her life. No information regarding the upcoming album has emerged, but Britney's faithful followers have watched her change up her look and sound with each single over the span of her decade-plus career, as she evolved from a bubblegum-pop princess to a sexy dance-club siren. Let's trace Spears' musical journey by taking a look at some of her most memorable tunes.

In 1999, a fresh-faced Spears released " ...Baby One More Time" (produced by Max Martin), the title track off her massive debut album. She got the conversation about her sexuality started thanks to a provocative video in which she danced around in a Catholic school uniform, as well as the song's equally provocative lyrics, where she longingly sang, "My loneliness is killing me/ I must confess, I still believe/ When I'm not with you I lose my mind/ Give me a sign/ Hit me baby one more time." It's to be noted that the song originally was intended for TLC.

In the video for "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (produced by Martin and Rami Yacoub), Spears' smash from the 2000 album of the same name, the pigtails and skirt were gone, replaced by a red catsuit. That visual, as well as the song's lyrical content, reflected Spears' evolution from naughty schoolgirl to intergalactic sex kitten, both in her video and on the song's lyrical content.

For "I'm a Slave 4 U" (produced by the Neptunes) off 2001's Britney, Spears declared her sexual independence. No longer was she just teasing about the idea that she loved the beat of dance music and how sexy it made her feel, instead she was explicitly sharing it with the world. Plus, who could forget all the sweat in that video.

In 2003, Spears teamed up with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, for "Me Against the Music" (produced by Christopher Stewart and Penelope Magnet), the sexy lead single from In the Zone. While the darker, more synth-heavy "Toxic" would become the album's defining tune, "Me Against the Music" picked up where "Slave" left off: Spears battling the demon she has inside of her that just loves to come out on the dance floor.

After a few years of not putting out any music, Spears hit the club again with 2007's "Gimme More" (produced by Danja) off the aptly titled Blackout. Between the release of In the Zone and Blackout, Spears had married, divorced and become a mother — she also had started to act erratically. The track, which relied more heavily on underground dance and electro than most of Spears' previous singles, was a highly sexualized tune about getting it on.

After the darkness of Blackout, Spears got back to her fun and frolicking old ways on the 2008 Circus single "Womanizer" (produced by the Outsyders). The track was a return to form for Spears after the lackluster response to Blackout, and it brought the discussion back around to her music and away from her sometimes topsy-turvy personal life. In the song's video, Spears gets back at a player, and really has the last laugh. The clip also features ffotage of a completely nude Britney in a steamy sauna.

In 2009, Spears shot to the top of the charts with the danceable track "Three" (produced by Martin and Shellback) off The Singles Collection. The tune was an instant smash, and featured Spears robotically singing about a ménage à trois over a club beat.

As for what's next for the singer, very little is known about her forthcoming album, although a couple of her producers have dropped some hints. Dr. Luke said that the music will "be a departure from what you've heard," while Danja called it "hard-hitting, uptempo [and] high-energy." Spears, meanwhile, is very clear about how she thinks the record is sounding. "I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!" she tweeted.

Stone Temple Pilots Reunited In Hopes Of Opening For Led Zeppelin, Bassist Says

'If time allows, there will definitely be new music,' Robert DeLeo adds of STP's future.
By Chris Harris

There are a number of reasons why Stone Temple Pilots decided to reunite after nearly five years apart — some are obvious, and others, not so much.

Of course, the financial windfall of reviving the grunge stalwarts for an extensive U.S. tour was too good to pass up, and bassist Robert DeLeo readily admits as much. And then there are the fans, the ones who had been with STP since the very beginning as well as those who discovered the band only after it first split back in 2003 and who, woefully, have yet to catch the Pilots live.

On a more personal level, though, Stone Temple Pilots' resurrection was purely selfish, and very much an anticipatory (not to mention optimistic) move on the band's part: If, after the months and months of rumors and denials, there ever is a full-on Led Zeppelin reunion tour, STP wanted to be ready to offer their services as an opening act.

"Believe me, that was one of the reasons," laughed DeLeo. "We thought, 'We should get together now, in case Zeppelin does tour.' I'm serious, man. That would be one hell of a bill: STP and Led Zeppelin. I mean, we could play a doghouse, out in the middle of the ocean, and if I got to play with Zeppelin, that would be a highlight of my life."

Yes, DeLeo — and the rest of the band — had several reservations about raising STP from the dead — a feat DeLeo jokingly referred to as "Mission Impossible." For the band's members, the idea of regrouping was terrifying at first, but with time, the boys settled their differences and tried to think positive.

"For me, it was about putting down some of the things that I was used to getting bitten by," explained the bassist — who, with guitar-playing brother Dean DeLeo, has been collaborating with Peter Frampton on material for his next LP. "After you get bitten, it's hard to go back. I wanted to go into this with an open frame of mind and a positive attitude and just have fun with it. We should have fun with it, which God knows we didn't always have with our career when we were younger. If that's all I can say, and that's what I can get out of this reunion, great.

"I think I speak for all of us when I say there's a lot of unfinished business that we didn't get around to the first go," he continued. "Enough time has gone by, and it feels really good to be back. I don't really want to put too much thought into how it feels — I'm just kind of going with it and keeping a good positive attitude about it. I just needed to get over the things that we all needed to get over, and that's been working so far. If everyone shows up and does this thing, I think it's going to be really amazing."

DeLeo claims that during recent rehearsals, STP were "sounding as good as ever," and he credits sobriety as part of the reason the band's in tip-top shape.

"My brother's going on four years of sobriety," he said. "We have a lot more clarity in the band now, and I think with clarity comes appreciation. I saw that the other night, when we played [a secret gig in Los Angeles]. I saw it in my eyes, and in the eyes of the rest of the band. There's a lot more rock in this band now."

As for an STP record, DeLeo is not 100 percent sure that's going to happen. The goal for STP over the next few weeks, he said, is to reacquaint themselves with their songbook and prepare for their return to the road. Once the band is back in that mindset, the bassist said new STP material is very possible.

"I've always got stuff written, and there's always a long list of songs that are always there — it's a matter of timing," DeLeo said. "If time allows, there will definitely be new music. I think it would be silly not to release new music. I'd like to believe we still have a writing relationship, but the first step is getting reacquainted with what we know."

While STP were on hiatus, frontman Scott Weiland teamed up with Velvet Revolver, and the DeLeo brothers joined forces with Filter's Richard Patrick for Army of Anyone — who are now on hiatus after releasing a poorly received self-titled LP. Does DeLeo foresee an AOA reunion somewhere down the line?

"You never know," he said. "It's just like STP — I didn't know if I was going to return. Whether we get back together and do anything, I think we made a great record, bottom line. That's all that matters to me. If we make another one, I want to make sure it's great, and that applies to STP and anything I do. But I was pretty heartbroken over [the feeble response to AOA's album]."

Daft Punk's 'Tron Legacy' Score: Five Secrets Revealed

'They weren't shooting for a Daft Punk record. They wanted to create a full-bodied, timeless score,' film's music supervisor Jason Bentley says.
By Eric Ditzian

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter rock sleek robot helmets in public, rarely submit to interviews and have left electronic-music fans wondering for more than two decades, "Just who are the dudes from Daft Punk?"

Now, thanks to their collaborative work on the "Tron Legacy" score, the curtain shielding the French duo from the public eye has been pulled back perhaps farther than ever before. Music supervisor Jason Bentley ("The Matrix" trilogy) worked with de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter for two years on the project, and in a wide-ranging interview, Bentley gave MTV News all sorts of insight into Daft Punk's creative process and what they're like to hang out with on a day-to-day basis. Here are five secrets revealed about Daft Punk and their "Tron" score.

Daft Punk Might Make a Film in the Future
It took a year for Bentley and director Joseph Kosinski to convince the group to take part in "Tron Legacy," Disney's follow-up to the 1982 original about a man sucked into a computer world and forced to engage in trippy gladiatorial games. The commitment would mean no touring and no other work for a full two years. So what finally convinced them to do it? Daft Punk might have their eyes on making their own movies.

"They were looking at this as much more than a composer gig," Bentley told us. "It was going to be an education in filmmaking. I wouldn't be surprised if they made movies from here. There were too many questions about lighting and cameras and lenses or effects. The Daft Punk guys are very, very interested in filmmaking."

Daft Punk Look Like Gorillaz Characters
What do Daft Punk look like beneath those helmets? According to Bentley, just picture two animated creatures.

"You know the animation style of Gorillaz? They totally look like characters out of Gorillaz videos. It's pretty funny. I'd turn around, and whether they were working or walking across a lot to meet me, I'd chuckle to myself because they're just the oddest couple."

Bentley went on to joke that they hardly need to wear the robot outfits "because they're such colorful characters." De Homem-Christo, he explained, "is the quiet one. You'll think he's not listening or there's a language issue, but it'll turn out he's been listening to everything." Bangalter, meanwhile, "is much more expressive and almost overcompensates for Guy-Man."

Daft Punk Are Huge Pop Culture Nerds
When Daft Punk set out to score "Tron Legacy," they had one goal in mind: to make an iconic film score.

"They're such huge fans of popular culture," said Bentley. "The score that they set out to make was one that could stand with 'Star Wars' or 'Superman.' They weren't shooting for a Daft Punk record. They wanted to create a full-bodied, timeless score."

The guys could often be spotted wearing "Back to the Future" T-shirts on the Disney lot. And Bentley recalled a time when they were all in a van together and Guns N' Roses' "November Rain" came on the radio. Daft Punk then launched into a highly detailed deconstruction of the song's 1992 music video starring Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour. "It was so crazy how vivid it was in their minds," Bentley laughed.

The "Tron" Score Is Better Than The "Matrix" Scores
We'll let Bentley explain this one.

"What's amazing is how for the score, they fused the acoustic orchestral layer, the electronic layer — big kick drums or synth lines — and the granular, atmospheric level. I was the music supervisor for 'The Matrix' trilogy and we tried to merge those three layers and I think we did pretty good, but I don't think we nailed it. The problem was we were putting two different mind-sets in the room. It was our composer, Don Davis, who was fully on the orchestral side, and then we were introducing electronic people to him like Fluke or Rob D or Juno Reactor. We just didn't get a unified concept. With Daft Punk on 'Tron,' you feel that unified vision.

" 'Solar Sailor' is a really good example of that," he added of one track. "It's not an easy task to bring those two worlds together, orchestral and electronic. It can sound really clunky. But for 'Solar Sailor,' you can hear the strings coming in, and they fused that with the other layers. It's amazing."

Daft Punk's Cameo Started Out as a Joke
The group's presence is, of course, felt throughout the film, but Daft Punk actually show up for a cameo toward the end of the film. They play DJs in the computer world's after-hours hot spot called the End of the Line club. The cameo is a satisfying bit of insider hat-tipping on the part of the filmmakers ... and it started out as a joke.

"It was Joe Kosinski's idea," said Bentley. "At first it was just a jokey, amusing fantasy and it stuck. They liked the idea and just went with it."

Almost all of the material the DJs play in the club made it onto the "Tron" soundtrack, except for one track. "The second of three cues — that cue did not make the soundtrack," Bentley explained. "No one has noticed that. It's somewhat in limbo. I don't know if it will come out as a Daft Punk track or bonus material. It's damn good, and who knows where it will end up?"

Check out everything we've got on "Tron Legacy."

Happy Holidays from the Kardashian clan!

The famous family posed for their annual holiday card and all 11 members were dressed to the nines, including their youngest reality star, Kourtney and Scott Disick's little boy, Mason Dash Disick, who just turned 1 on Tuesday.

"Christmas cards have always been a REALLY big deal in my family," Khloé Kardashian, 26, wrote on her blog. "For as long as I can remember, my mom has made it a point to go all out. Whether it was a ninja turtles themed card, or bringing a Santa into the mix, each year she always managed to top the year before."

It was pretty easy for the fam to make this year's greeting more special than the previous years', as Mason's gorgeous little face brought a new level of beauty to the Kardashian-Jenner group.

"I'd have to say though that our card this year might be my favorite," the proud aunt wrote. "It turned out beautifully – just SO glam! Plus, Mason is in it, which makes it even more special. Look at him standing there in his pinstripe suit."

The reality star family may look glam now, but they've definitely come a long way. Khloe also posted some of the gang's old-school cards from the '80s and '90s, and they're pretty hilarious. Check them out here -- the motorcycle-themed photo is especially entertaining!

How Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson Grew Apart

How Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson Grew Apart

After just two years of marriage, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson announced earlier this week that they have split up. But what caused these two to go their separate ways? Well, it seems the demands of their careers and the time they were forced to be away from each other took its toll on their union.

"There's no third party," a source told People.com, adding that the pair made the decision to end their marriage about a month ago. "Ryan and Scarlett had been having some issues for a few months now. Distance and their careers played a big role. When you don't spend a lot of time with your partner you grow apart."

The Sexiest Man Alive, 34, and Johansson, 26, tied the knot in 2008, after a very quiet courtship but, after they said "I do," they came across more obstacles than they bargained for.

In recent months, an insider said that they had "started to lead different lives, and it was harder and harder to come back together and pick up where they left off. Scarlett was young when they married. She's a mature person but at points they were just on different pages."

Some speculate Reynolds wanted to settle down and start a family, while Johansson wasn't feeling the pulls of motherhood just yet. Still, the duo remains on good terms.

Says the source: "They had an intense and loving relationship, and they'll always love and respect each other."

Do you think Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds gave up on their marriage too quickly? Chime in below!

Sandra Bullock, Oprah Winfrey Among 2011 Oscar Presenters

Sandra Bullock took home a Best Actress trophy at the 2010 Oscars for her acclaimed turn in "The Blind Side," and now the star will be on hand to present an award at next year's big event when it takes place on February 27.

Oscar nominee Oprah Winfrey and Oscar winners Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and Marisa Tomei also are part of the list of 2011 Academy Awards presenters that the show's producers released on Monday. More Oscar presenters are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, while the nominees will be announced on January 25. Meanwhile, the nominees for the Golden Globes were revealed on Tuesday, with films like "The Social Network" and "The King's Speech."

Oscar night will be hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco, with the latter actor also figuring to play an even more prominent part in the ceremony. The 32-year-old is considered a lock to nab a Best Actor nomination for his turn as a trapped hiker in "127 Hours," the Danny Boyle-directed drama that's also expected to compete for Best Picture honors.

The 28-year-old Hathaway, meanwhile, remains a long shot in the Best Actress category for her role in "Love & Other Drugs," which received mixed reviews and reeled in just $14 million over the extended Thanksgiving holiday.

Hiring Franco and Hathaway as hosts certainly marks a strategic turn by the Academy, which has long been accused of being out of touch with the young pop-culture mainstream. A quick scan of Oscar history shows that, over the last two decades, no previous host has been younger than 40 when emceeing the show. Most recently, 64-year-old Steve Martin and 51-year-old Alec Baldwin assumed co-hosting duties, notching the event's best ratings in five years.

The 83rd Academy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on ABC.

Beyonce Says She Takes Pregnancy Rumors In Stride

'I just hope that one day, when I decide to be pregnant that people are happy for me,' superstar jokes about year-round bump-watch.
By Jocelyn Vena

Beyoncé
Photo: MTV News

In 2010 alone, Beyoncé was pregnant at least twice, if you believe the rumors.

While the singer shot down the talk both times, she says that at this point she's pretty much to used to people speculating about potential baby bumps. "I mean, it's a part of it. At this point they said I've been pregnant like eight times, so I'm kind of used to it," Beyoncé told MTV News at a screening for her concert DVD, "I Am ... World Tour," in New York City.

"I just hope that one day, when I decide to be pregnant that people are happy for me, 'cause I'm like gosh, like, everyone's like, 'Oh god, please! She's been pregnant 100 times.' One day, hopefully, I will be. So whatever; it's a part of being a celebrity, I guess."

Her mom, Tina Knowles, was also at the screening and when asked if she thought that 2011 might be the year we give up gossiping about Bey's pregnancy status, she played it cool. "You have to ask her those personal things," she said. "I don't know!"

But Tina was also the lady to shoot down the baby-bump rumors last month when she sat down with talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres.

"I heard that, but I'm here to clear the rumors up. The truth is it's not Beyoncé that's pregnant, it's me," she joked. "No, it's not true. Not right now. I'm looking forward to it. With all the rumors, by now I should have about five or six grandchildren."

Jon Favreau Explains 'Iron Man 3' Departure

Director says he's looking forward to returning to family fare with 'Magic Kingdom.'
By Eric Ditzian

Jon Favreau
Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images

Wherever Tony Stark goes from here, he will be traveling without the assistance of Jon Favreau. The two-time "Iron Man" director walked away from the franchise on Tuesday, choosing instead to direct a family-oriented Disney film and emphasizing that his relationship with Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment and its studio chief Kevin Feige remains strong.

"Marvel and I both came of age together," Favreau said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "The years that we shared were a pivotal experience. Kevin has a firm grasp on the many franchises and how they all interweave and I am happy that I had the opportunity to establish the world that these characters can now play in."

Favreau is leaving behind the "Iron Man" franchise, which grossed $1.2 billion worldwide under his guidance, to direct "Magic Kingdom," a film about a family that gets trapped in Disneyland and has all manner of magical encounters with the park's attractions. Ditching Tony Stark and embracing Mickey Mouse, Favreau said, gives him the opportunity to "find something that lights a fire" within him and can "blow people away, which is easier to do with a project that isn't loaded with built-in expectations."

The move marks a return of sorts for Favreau, who directed family-oriented fare like "Elf" and "Zathura" before being recruited, somewhat surprisingly, to direct Marvel's 2008 "Iron Man" effort. Recapturing those early experiences is an attractive prospect for Favreau.

"I can't begin to tell you how fulfilling the perennial nature of 'Elf' on television has been for me," he said. "It's great to be able to connect parents with children both emotionally and through humor. I look forward to exploring family entertainment once again and examining the specifics of our day-to-day lives against the backdrop of an extraordinary adventure."

Favreau will remain a producer on Marvel's 2012 adaptation of "The Avengers," the all-star comics series in which Iron Man stars. " 'Iron Man' has given me tremendous opportunities and Kevin and I are enjoying a lot of momentum in our careers thanks to the 'Iron Man' films," he said." I look forward to seeing what others can do playing in the same world."

Adam Lambert on Homosexuality, Career: It's a Balancing Act

Since he first graced the American Idol stage, Adam Lambert has handled the topic of his homosexuality with grace and maturity.

That's continued to this day, including a recent visit to France, where a reporter asked Adam if he gets bothered by how often his sexual preference comes up in interviews.

"It doesn't bother me," he said. "When I'm abroad, people mostly ask me why they talk about it so much in the U.S.! And it's normal, because there are very few openly gay artists. I just don't want it to overshadow my music, and this can be the case because of the media, who have a tendency to sensationalize the issue.”

Our Favorite Idol

Lambert was also asked about the single "Aftermath," which seems to focus on the issue of one coming out.

“When there's a cause that you can support in an honest manner and when you can influence people to make their life better, I don't think you should pass up the opportunity," he said of the song. "It's very exciting to be able to do something meaningful. Even if it's only a simple pop song, there's an intent behind it, which is to help people to better accept who they are.”

The 2010 American Music Awards dished out hardware to many of pop, R&B and country music's biggest names. Like most high-profile awards shows, there were showstopping performances, off-the-runway fashion and emotional moments. Unlike most trophy fests, the AMA winners aren't determined by the inner circle of music-industry professionals, but rather the fans who plunk down cash for hit records.

This year, fans handed over pyramids to the artists who also cranked out many of the biggest hits. Justin Bieber made off with the most AMA booty, nabbing four trophies. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, the Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and Bieber's mentor Usher also snagged AMA loot.

Slowly but surely stars are reacting to news that they've been nominated for a Golden Globe, after the nominations were announced on Tuesday morning (December 14).

Everyone from Nicole Kidman ("Rabbit Hole") to James Franco ("127 Hours") have expressed gratitude about the accolade. And the men of "The Social Network" are feeling equally overjoyed about their Globes recognition.

"It was an honor to be part of this wonderful movie and we're so glad it was acknowledged by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association," Jesse Eisenberg said in a statement about his nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama.

Eisenberg's co-star Andrew Garfield is also a nominee. Garfield said about his Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role nod, "I'm very touched to have been nominated by the HFPA this morning and am thrilled that 'The Social Network' has been recognized, as well as David [Fincher], Aaron [Sorkin], Jesse [Eisenberg] and Trent [Reznor]. The process of making this movie was an incredibly creative and joyous experience and to see the film honored in this way is truly a thrill and is something for which I'm very grateful."

(Click here for photos of this year's biggest nominees!)

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and composer Atticus Ross scored nominations for their work on "The Social Network"; they are up for Best Original Score. The pair said they "are incredibly flattered by the recognition we're receiving for our work scoring 'The Social Network.' Working with David Fincher and his team ranks among the most rewarding creative experiences either of us have experienced, and we are thankful for the opportunity. Being part of a team and watching a project you truly believe in resonate with the outside world is its own reward, but this feels pretty great, too."

"Inception" director Christopher Nolan is nominated in directing and writing categories for the trippy flick. "I'd like to thank the HFPA for recognizing all of our hard work on 'Inception.' It is particularly gratifying to be recognized for a film you've carried with you so long, and shared with so many incredible artists and craftsmen across six countries," he said. "It is a great honor and we are thrilled to be a part of such a prestigious group of nominees."

After an impressive 2010, Jeremy Renner was recognized for his role in "The Town" with a Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture nomination. "I raise a cup of coffee, grinning from ear to ear at this very early hour, to the HFPA with gratitude as this represents an enormous milestone for me personally as an artist and I will be forever indebted to Ben Affleck my partner in crime."

"Thank you to everyone at The HFPA. It's a great thrill to be honored for this performance," Paul Giamatti said in a statement. He's up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for "Barney's Version." "I believe Richard [Lewis] made a lovely movie, and I am really happy for the film to be recognized. I share this with Rosamund [Pike], Dustin [Hoffman] and all the cast and crew, who were a joy to work with."

Hollywood's leading ladies also expressed excitement about their nominations. "When the phone rang this morning, it was my mom telling me I was nominated — I was thrilled! Well, loopy and thrilled," said "Love and Other Drugs" star Anne Hathaway, who's up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. "I've been traveling and jet lag had me wide awake watching 'Mad Men' all night. So I might celebrate by going back to sleep. Or by watching another episode (it's so good! Damn you, Draper ... ) And I'm so happy and proud to share this honor with Jake!  Thanks, Hollywood Foreign Press!"

"The Kids Are All Right" co-stars Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are both up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. "Seeing our movie getting so much recognition makes me proud," Bening said. "And being nominated alongside Julianne Moore is the best!"

"I was busy putting towels in the dryer this morning and didn't hear my phone ring, so when my friend called a little later I was pretty sure she was consoling me," Moore said in a separate statement. "I am so thrilled to be nominated!"

Do you think Jesse and Anne are worthy Golden Globes nominees? Who do you think was overlooked? Tell us in the comments!

Britney Spears Remains Under Conservatorship

Conservatorship has been in place since February 2008.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Thursday (September 30), Britney Spears met with a judge in Los Angeles to discuss the current status of her conservatorship, which she has been under since February 2008.

TMZ reports that Judge Reva Goetz had requested a meeting with the pop star after the judge had discussed ending the conservatorship with Spears' lawyers at the last few status meetings.

Spears' father, Jamie Spears, was also present in the judge's chambers during the progress meeting. He left the courtroom minutes after Britney, who wore a black dress and black ankle boots.

It was decided that Spears would remain under her conservatorship, according to TMZ. The judge took the stand to announce: "At this time, all orders will remain in full force and effect." The decision came after she met with Spears and her father individually. The judge did give the OK to approve "investment strategies" for Britney's trust; a petition had been filed regarding that matter.

While there seems to be no change in Spears' personal life, she has certainly been a force to be reckoned with since she released her 2008 album Circus. She's managed to once again top the charts, mount a successful tour and even try her hand at acting. This week alone she brought some star power to "Glee," which tackled her hit-filled catalog, including "Me Against the Music."

Much has been rumored about what Spears is working on as far as a follow-up to Circus. After it was reported that Spears might release new music sometime this year, her manager, Adam Leber, was quick to clear the air.

"No new music news right now....Wish people wouldn't mislead you guys with BS info," he wrote on Twitter in August. "Not cool! PS- The guys that ARE working on Brit's next album ARE NOT talking about it..."

Rihanna, Justin Bieber Top Billboard's Social 50 Chart

Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj round out the new tally's top 5.
By Jocelyn Vena

As if Rihanna and Justin Bieber needed another chart to conquer, Billboard has given them one. The magazine has just launched the Social 50 chart, which ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social-networking sites, and the two pop juggernauts have landed at the top of the tally.

Rihanna and Bieber place first and second on the list, respectively, followed by Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. Filling out the top 10 are the Black Eyed Peas (#6), Katy Perry (#7), Ke$ha (#8), Linkin Park (#9) and Shakira (#10). Other artists who made the list include Taylor Swift, Usher, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Paramore.

"We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music," Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said about the new chart. "The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times."

For those wondering how the magazine came up with the list, here's the science: Social music-tracking service Next Big Sound collects data from the MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iLike websites and tallies artists' popularity using a formula blending their weekly additions of friends, fans and followers. The online behavior of these websites' users and the number of artist page views and song plays they rack up are among the data used to determine the rankings.

"The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists with whom music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today's world is a significant validation of their investment in an act," Billboard director of charts Silvio Pietroluongo explained. "The chart is a logical complement to Billboard's other popularity rankings."

"The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore," Next Big Sound CEO Alex White said. "We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous."

The Social 50 will be published each week in Billboard, and also will be available on Billboard.com and Billboard.biz.

Owen Wilson Promises 'Hansel Swagger' In 'Zoolander' Sequel

Actor says draft of script is 'really funny.'
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Owen Wilson
Photo: MTV News

At New York Comic Con in October, "Zoolander 2" writer/director Justin Theroux told MTV News that when we finally catch up with Derek and his buddy Hansel — the fashion world's It dudes back in the 2001 original — we're hardly going to recognize them. "We start off with them in a pretty bad place," he said of the sequel plans. "They're about to ring 40's bell. They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another."

But while these two dimwitted male models might no longer be A-list fashionistas, that doesn't mean they've lost the egocentric mojo that makes them tick. Just take it from Hansel himself, Owen Wilson.

"The thing about Hansel is he can't ever imagine himself, so even if he isn't the #1 guy, I think he still carries himself as if," Wilson told MTV News. "He'll still have that Hansel swagger."

Though a draft of the script is done — Wilson called it "really funny" — there's still no set date for production to begin. When MTV News caught up with Ben Stiller last month, he told us they're hoping to begin shooting in 2011.

"We're working on it, we're working on it," he said. "Hopefully next year we're going to be making it. But we've been full steam ahead on it."

The fashion world, of course, has changed a great deal since '01, with new trendsetters coming onto the scene in the years since Mugatu hilariously introduced his Derelicte collection, featuring models dolled up like rag-covered bums. And Wilson has a feeling that none other than Lady Gaga, that meat-dress-wearing fashion icon, could be perfect for a "Zoolander 2" cameo.

"Maybe she makes a good foil for Hansel," he laughed.
